Leigh Ellen Macemore - The Artist Behind the Art

I was born and raised in the foothills of North Carolina. A creative soul from childhood, I was always making some form of art. My adventurous spirit and love of nature was often the inspiration for my subjects. I began a career in conservation work after college. After eight years, I looked to expand my career; that led me to Iowa. Here, I continue my love of nature and art.

I’m an artist that uses various methods, mediums and media. My work consists of pyrographic drawings, acrylic paintings, oil pastels, watercolors, pen and ink, and gouache.

I have always loved trying different forms of art. I love the challenge to learn other ways to create. The most interesting media I use is pyrography. Most people know pyrography as woodburning.

Opallios Art- What about that Name

Opallios is greek for opal and the meaning is “seeing the change in color”. I chose Opallios Art as my business name because I started becoming serious about getting my art out into the world during a time of great change for me. I was ending one chapter of my life and opening up to a whole new adventure. I was discovering who I am as a person and how I fit into this wonderful life. The opal is my birth stone and I do love the colors and how each stone is beautifully different. Even more so, the colors of each stone can change based on the angle and lighting. It’s all in how you perceive it. The colors of the stone will appear different for each person. Such is life. Life is how you perceive it and oh, how beautiful it can be.
